GCSE results day is just around the corner, but did you know that more and more South West Wiltshire employers are employing apprentices to study ‘A’ Level standard qualifications and above, whilst offering a great wage at the same time!

In South West Wiltshire, the number of Advanced Apprenticeship starts (equivalent to ‘A’ Levels) has increased by over 60% in the last three years! In 2016/17 there were over 470 Level 3 apprenticeship starts in South West Wiltshire alone, compared to 290 in 2013/14.

In fact, apprenticeships are changing beyond recognition, opening career pathways in industries not normally associated with apprenticeships.

For example, Wiltshire based, Goughs Solicitors (with offices in Chippenham, Corsham, Calne, Trowbridge, Melksham and Devizes) see apprenticeships as a big part of their future. From September 2018, they are giving young people the opportunity to study a Level 3 Paralegal Apprenticeship and are hoping to progress their successful apprentices to Solicitor Apprenticeships – which would include a fully funded law degree!

However, many parents and young people have out-of-date knowledge and views on apprenticeships, the careers available and the potential earnings. Put your knowledge to the test this summer by taking our quick apprenticeship quiz or come along to an event on GCSE results day to get the facts.
