What’s this course about?  

This course aims to provide learners with skills to communicate effectively.  We will identify common types of communication and how we adjust our conversations according to who we are speaking to. We will use communication to meet our needs – whether that is shopping, making appointments or making friends. 

Course format:  

This is a face-to-face course where learners will learn together and take part in practical group activities, all in a relaxed and friendly environment.  Venue: Doorway, The Citadel, Bath Rd, Chippenham SN15 2AB

Who will benefit from attending?  

People who are looking to improve confidence in their communication skills. 

What will I learn? 

  • We will explore the reasons that we communicate, who we communicate with and how our communication styles change. 
  • We will identify appropriate types of communication 
  • We will participate in role plays to practise communicating so that they are familiar with scenarios 
  • We will explore how to communicate feelings effectively 
  • We will explore how to move an initial meeting to a friendship 

 How long is the course?  

A single 2-hour session. 

Will I be assessed?  

You will be required to complete some paperwork during this course. This will record and support your learning journey and successes.  

Family and Community Learning courses are funded by the Education and Skills Funding Agency. Courses are no cost to learners if they are 19 years old before 31st August, have a Wiltshire postcode, and have been a resident in UK/EU for 3+years (or have certain immigration status) and if you can tick any of these criteria:

Receiving Universal Credit.

Receiving Employment Support Allowance (ESA).

Receiving Job Seekers Allowance (JSA).

Receiving another benefit (other than child benefit) e.g. housing benefit, income support, pension credit, PIP, DLA.

Have school-aged child / children who qualify for Free School Meals.

Currently unemployed and would like to work in the future.

Have refugee status.

Foster Carer

Care Leaver

Carer

Military Family

Ex-Armed Forces Personnel

Have a Learning Difficulty or Disability.

Parent / carer of a child needing additional support (SEND, MH, no diagnosis needed).
