DESCRIPTION:Venue: Trowbridge Family Hub\, BA14 8JN What’s this course about?     This course will help you to understand the differences between primary and secondary school and ways to support your child with the transition.  Course format:  Face to face.    Who will benefit from attending?     This course is for parents whose children are in year 6\, getting ready to move to secondary school  What will I learn?     The differences between primary and secondary school Explore why transition can be tricky for some parents and children  The importance of building confidence and resilience for both children and parents Identify strategies to support children with the different areas of the transition to secondary school The importance of online safety Identify the signs of stress and anxiety in children and strategies to support this Consider the differences in communication methods in secondary school as well as who is who in most settings.   How long is the course?     This is run as 2-hour sessions over 2 weeks\, with some activities to do at home to help you practise your skills.     Will I be assessed?     You will be required to complete some paperwork during this course in the form of surveys\, lists and reading in preparation for discussion.  24-25 eligibility statement: Courses are no cost to learners who meet the eligibility criteria: Learners must be aged 19+ on 31 August 2024 to learn with Family and Community Learning this academic year.  Learners must also have a Wiltshire postcode and either have lived in the UK/EU for three years or meet certain residency requirements (for example\, certain types of immigration status are exempt from the three-year residency rule).  Learners must also be able to tick one of the following criteria: On a lower income\, earning less than £25\,000 a year.In receipt of benefits (other than child benefit).Care leaver\, refugee\, foster carer\, carer\, military family / ex-armed forces personnel\, learning difficulty or disability\, or have school-aged children who receive free school meals.Not in work and looking to go into work\, now or in the future.If you do not feel you fit within the criteria\, we may still be able to help.  Please get in touch with us to discuss this further.
