What’s this course about?
This course looks at what happens to the brain through adolescence and the impact that has on behaviour and social development. It uses Positive Psychology approaches to identify the role that adults can play in supporting their teenager’s well-being and some techniques that they can share with their teens to use independently.
Course format:
This is an online course where you’ll learn together and take part in practical group activities, all in a relaxed and friendly environment.
Who will benefit from attending?
This course is for parents and carers who want to support their 12+ year old with their mental wellbeing.
What will I learn?
- understand a little more about brain development to understand teenage behaviour.
- identify your role in supporting your teenagers and will develop understanding of techniques to try
- discuss how to engage their teenagers with looking after themselves.
- Find out where to go for further help, advice and support
How long is the course?
This is run as a single 2-hour session, with some activities to do at home to help you practise your skills.
Will I be assessed?
You will be required to complete some paperwork
Courses are no cost to learners who meet the eligibility criteria:
Learners must be aged 19+ on 31 August 2024 to learn with Family and Community Learning this academic year. Learners must also have a Wiltshire postcode and either have lived in the UK/EU for three years or meet certain residency requirements (for example, certain types of immigration status are exempt from the three-year residency rule). Learners must also be able to tick one of the following criteria:
- On a lower income, earning less than £25,000 a year.
- In receipt of benefits (other than child benefit).
- Care leaver, refugee, foster carer, carer, military family / ex-armed forces personnel, learning difficulty or disability, or have school-aged children who receive free school meals.
- Not in work and looking to go into work, now or in the future.
