Starts for 2017/18 show a drop of 740 apprenticeship starts to 5,720, a drop of 11.5% since 16/17. This was the first full year with the Apprenticeship levy which was introduced in April 2017, and nationally there was a drop of 24.1% on apprenticeship starts. Wiltshire had 19.2 starts per 1000 population aged 16-64 years old which is the second highest compared to Wiltshire’s statistical neighbours, with an average of 11.7, and well above the national average of 10.8 (Dorset is highest at 20.4).
