EES 15: Number of apprenticeship starts

Starts for 2016/17 shows a drop of 20 apprenticeship starts to 6460 a drop of 0.3% since 15/16.   The apprenticeship levy was introduced in April, and nationally there was a drop of 3.7% on apprenticeship starts.  Due to Wiltshire’s high uptake of apprenticeships in Q3 the total figure for Wiltshire is still high in comparison.  Wiltshire remains at 22 starts per 1000 population aged 16-64 years old which is the second highest compared to Wiltshire’s statistical neighbours with an average of 14.2, and well above the national average of 12.1 (Dorset is highest at 23.5).  The drop has been in the 18-24 year old group with 25+ apprenticeship starts increasing from 2740 to 2810.  This data is sourced from the FE: Data Library and County Populations sourced from Nomis. Data reported for 2017/18 Q2 August-January shows Wiltshire had 2,630 starts for this period, this is a 19.1% drop compared to the same period the previous year which had 3,250 starts.

EES 33: Number of apprenticeship starts by 16-18 year olds

Starts for 2016/17 shows 1260 apprenticeship starts for 16-18 year olds. This is a slight decreased compared to the previous year. This data is sourced from the FE: Data Library. Data reported for 2017/18 Q2 August-January shows Wiltshire had 660 starts for this period, this is a 17.5% drop compared to the same period the previous year which had 800 starts.

EES 42: Number of intermediate apprenticeship starts

2016/17 shows a reduction again in Intermediate Apprenticeship starts to 2920.  This is a decrease of 7.9% on the previous year and the second year in a row that Wiltshire has seen a decrease in the amount of intermediate starts, this could continue to be affected with the introduction of the Apprenticeship Levy in 2017. Data reported for 2017/18 Q2 August-January shows Wiltshire had 1060 starts for this period, this is a 32.5% drop compared to the same period the previous year which had 1570 starts.

EES 43: Intermediate apprenticeship success rate

73.5% of the cohort (2,510 individuals) completed their intermediate Apprenticeships in 2016/17, a significant increase on the previous years, and significantly higher than the national success rate average (67.1%). This data was sourced from the national achievement rates tables 2016/17.

EES 44: Number of advanced apprenticeship starts

2016/17 shows a continued increase in Advanced Apprenticeship starts to 3,270.  This is an increase of 3.2% on the previous year. This data was sourced from the FE: Data Library. Data reported for 2017/18 Q2 August-January shows Wiltshire had 1370 starts for this period, this is a 12.2% decrease compared to the same period the previous year which had 1560 starts.

69.8% of the cohort (1,750 individuals) completed their intermediate Apprenticeships in 2016/17, a slight decrease on the previous year, but higher than the national success rate average (69.3%). This data was sourced from the national achievement rates tables 2016/17.

Higher

EES 46: Number of higher apprenticeship starts

2016/17 shows a continued increase in Higher Apprenticeship starts to 270.  This is an increase of 92.9% on the previous year. This data was sourced from the FE: Data Library. Data reported for 2017/18 Q2 August-January shows Wiltshire had 200 starts for this period, this is a 53.8%% increase compared to the same period the previous year which had 130 starts, this large increase is likely to be contributed to the introduction of the Levy and businesses using it to upskill their staff with higher level qualifications.

EES 47: Higher apprenticeship success rate

Of the 90 individuals due to finish a higher Apprenticeship in 2016/17, 64.5% completed theirs. Wiltshire had a significant decrease on the previous year and the county’s success rate remains above the average rate nationally (61.9%). It should be noted that Wiltshire has a very small cohort size. This data was sourced from national achievement rates tables 2016/17.

Supported Internships

EES 14: Number of Supported Internship starts for 16 – 24 year olds

Wiltshire Council’s Supported Internships Programme commenced in September 2014. For 2017/18 there are 21 Supported Internship starts: 6 at Salisbury College, 6 at Trowbridge College, 6 Fairfield College and 3 at Swindon College. This year Swindon College are using 3 of their 6 places.
