ESOL Beginner

What’s this course about? 

This course supports you to communicate more confidently and improve your English speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills. On this course you will learn to understand and use words and phrases for everyday conversation. You will practise speaking skills and discuss topics such as shopping, transport, family, work, wellbeing and money.   

Course format: 

You will learn together in a group in a relaxed and friendly environment.  There are ten sessions of two hours. It will include full group teaching and independent activities.  There will be some activities to complete at home to help develop your knowledge or practice your skills.     

Who will benefit from attending?  

This course will benefit anyone who would like to improve their English language skills.   

What will I learn? 

  • Practice speaking, listening, reading, grammar and writing skills 
  • Discuss topics such as shopping, transport, family, work, wellbeing and    

       money.   

  • Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance for your next  

steps in life. 

How long is the course? 

This is run as 2-hour face to face sessions over 10 weeks, with some activities to do at home to help you practise your skills.  

Will I be assessed? 

You will be required to complete some paperwork during this course. This will record and support your learning journey and successes.  

Eligibility:

Courses are no cost to learners who meet our eligibility criteria. Learners must be aged 19+ on 31 August of the academic year, have a Wiltshire postcode, and meet certain residency requirements.

They must also be able to tick one of the following criteria:

  • On a lower income, earning less than £25,750 a year.
  • In receipt of benefits (other than child benefit).
  • Care leaver, refugee, foster carer, carer, military family / ex-armed forces personnel, have a learning difficulty or disability, have school-aged children who receive means-tested free school meals.
  • Not in work and looking to go into work, now or in the future.
