Shop for Less

Location: Trowbridge What’s this course about?   This two-hour course focuses on ways to spend less, identifying good value for money and choosing the best buy from a range of options.  Course format:   This is a course where you’ll learn together and take part in practical group activities, all in a relaxed and friendly environment.    Who will benefit from attending?   This course is for adults who would like to learn practical ways to reduce the cost of their shopping bills.  What will I learn? 
  • Compare items to calculate the buy 
  • Explain ways to control spending in order to follow a budget 
  • Practice using mental maths skills to round and estimate the cost of shopping 
 How long is the course?   The session is 2 hours long.   Will I be assessed?   You will be required to complete some paperwork during this course. This will record and support your learning journey and successes.    Entry Requirements: FaCL courses are funded by the UK government via the Adult Skills Fund. Courses are no cost to learners who meet our eligibility criteria.  Learners must be aged 19+ on 31 August of the academic year, have a Wiltshire postcode and meet certain residency requirements. They must also be able to tick one of the following criteria:
  • On a lower income (individual income less than £25,750 a year)
  • In receipt of benefits (other than child benefit)
  • Care leaver, refugee, foster carer, carer, military family / ex-armed forces personnel
  • Have a learning difficulty or disability
  • Have school aged children who receive means-tested free school meals.
  • Not in work and looking to go into work, now or in the future.
