Naomi’s Journey Back to Learning
A Wiltshire young person who once felt unable to enter a classroom again is now thriving at college thanks to the right support, early intervention, and her own determination to succeed.
For several years, Naomi faced significant challenges following experiences of bullying at school. The impact on her confidence and wellbeing was so profound that she was unable to return to a traditional school environment and was home educated from 2022.
With support from a Work Wiltshire Education Adviser, Naomi was referred to services for young people who were Not in Education, Employment or Training (NEET). Through this support, her needs were identified, leading to a referral to Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) to help address the trauma she had experienced.
By accessing the right support and interventions, Naomi gradually rebuilt her confidence and developed strategies to manage the anxiety associated with educational settings. Step by step, she regained trust in her abilities and began to feel positive about her future.
Today, Naomi has reached a remarkable milestone. She is attending college and fully engaging in her studies, overcoming the fears and challenges that once prevented her from accessing education. Her journey highlights the positive impact that specialist support, early intervention, and perseverance can have on a young person’s life.
“Naomi’s story is a powerful reminder that, with the right support and encouragement, young people can overcome significant challenges and achieve their educational goals.”
Naomi’s experience demonstrates that no matter how difficult the journey may seem, the right help at the right time can open the door to new opportunities and brighter futures.
