Enhance Your English Part 1

What’s this course about?  

Session dates: 16, 23, 30 April, 7, 14 May

Our Enhance Your English (EYE) courses will help you to develop the English skills you need for further study, work or volunteering.  These courses are ideal preparation if you are thinking of studying Functional Skills English or GCSE English.  Your tutor will help you to work on your spelling, punctuation, grammar, writing and reading in an informal and supportive online class, and there will be learning activities to complete online too.  You will receive a certificate of achievement for each course that you complete. 

In EYE – you will explore ways to enhance and develop your reading skills, through a variety of methods, and gain confidence with practical techniques to improve your reading skills.  

Course format:  

This is an online course where you’ll learn together and take part in practical group activities, all in a relaxed and friendly environment.  

Who will benefit from attending?  

This course will prepare learners for their next steps in further study (including Functional Skills English).   

What will I learn?  

• How to use reading techniques to improve reading skills 
• How to identify specific information to extract relevant information 
• How to use evidence to demonstrate understanding  

How long is the course?  

This is run as a single 2-hour session, with some activities to do at home to help you practise your skills.  

Entry Requirements:

Family and Community Learning courses are funded by the Education and Skills Funding Agency. Courses are no cost to learners if they are aged 19+, have a Wiltshire postcode, and have been a resident in UK/EU for 3+years (or have certain immigration status) and if you can tick any of these criteria:

• have less than 5 GCSEs grades A-C / 9-4
• in receipt of benefits (other than child benefit)
• are a military family
• are a family with children who need additional support
• are unemployed and looking for work.
