What’s this course about?   

This course will help you to learn practical skills so you can grow your own produce. You will find out how to care for the environment and your community. You will discover ways that you can make positive changes in your community.  

Course format:   

This is a face-to-face course where you’ll learn together and take part in practical group activities, all in a relaxed and friendly environment.   

Who will benefit from attending?   

This course is for parents and carers who want to get more involved in their community, learn about the environment and take small steps towards a safer future for them and their families.  

What will I learn?   

• Explore how to make the world greener  
• Discover ways of growing and using your own vegetables 
• Develop an awareness of how to make environmental change in your community / neighbourhood 
• Develop knowledge on how to become a citizen of science by completing small, fun tasks  
• Find out where to go for further help, advice and support   

How long is the course?   

This is run in 2 parts both as 5 x 2-hour sessions, with some activities to do at home to help you practise your skills.  

Will I be assessed?   

You will be required to complete some paperwork during this course. This will record and support your learning journey and successes.   

Entry Requirements:

Family and Community Learning courses are funded by the Education and Skills Funding Agency. Courses are no cost to learners if they are aged 19+, have a Wiltshire postcode, and have been a resident in UK/EU for 3+years (or have certain immigration status) and if you can tick any of these criteria:

• have less than 5 GCSEs grades A-C / 9-4
• in receipt of benefits (other than child benefit)
• are a military family
• are a family with children who need additional support
• are unemployed and looking for work.
