What’s this course about?
This course will help you to understand the reasons why children may find change difficult, and ways that children’s ability to cope with change positively can be supported at home.
Course format:
This is an online course where you’ll learn together and take part in practical group activities, all in a relaxed and friendly environment.
Who will benefit from attending?
This course is for parents and carers who want to support their child/children through change.
What will I learn?
- Explore the reasons why children may find change difficult
- Discover ways that children’s ability to cope with change positively can be supported at home
- Develop an awareness of how visual supports such as visual timetables, calendars/countdowns and social situation stories are used to help children prepare for change
- Find out where to go for further help, advice and support
How long is the course?
This is run as a single 2-hour session, with some activities to do at home to help you practise your skills.
Will I be assessed?
You will be required to complete some paperwork during this course. This will record and support your learning journey and successes.
Eligibility:
Courses are no cost to learners who meet our eligibility criteria. Learners must be aged 19+ on 31 August of the academic year, have a Wiltshire postcode, and meet certain residency requirements.
They must also be able to tick one of the following criteria:
- On a lower income, earning less than £25,750 a year.
- In receipt of benefits (other than child benefit).
- Care leaver, refugee, foster carer, carer, military family / ex-armed forces personnel, have a learning difficulty or disability, have school-aged children who receive means-tested free school meals.
- Not in work and looking to go into work, now or in the future.
