Employers in Wiltshire are being encouraged to promote the work of their apprentices and help build the workforce of the future.
The Apprenticeship Ambassador Network (AAN) is for all companies who have apprenticeships in their workforce regardless of size or industry.
Apprentices can provide inspiration for the next generation by attending events and providing an insight into their day to day work roles.
Apprenticeship Ambassadors:
•Champion apprenticeships in their own workplace
•Act as a role model to promote and encourage apprenticeships
•Share their experiences knowledge and skills – through case studies, events, meetings and media
•Promote apprenticeships at job fairs, skill shows and events
•Undertake the ambassador role on a voluntary basis one day a quarter
The AAN is part of the National Apprenticeship Service. Wiltshire Council, which has its own successful apprenticeship programme, supports the AAN and one of its officers has a key role in the work.
Laura Mayes, Wiltshire Council cabinet member for children’s services said:
There are a number of exciting apprenticeships available with a range of employers throughout Wiltshire. We know there is nothing like hearing what a role entails from those who are doing the work.
We want to encourage more employers to publicise their experiences of having apprentices, which in turn promotes their business as well as inspiring the next generation.
Those signing up to the AAN will be part of a regional network of ambassadors and will have support as they promote the work their company is carrying out with apprenticeships.
Nigel Fenn, south west regional chair, said:
I am proud to represent the south west region with our diverse membership of employer and young ambassadors. Championing the apprenticeship ethos is part of our DNA and we strive to raise awareness, share good practice and engage with employers to a vocational pathway.
