All Wiltshire libraries and leisure centres to close until further notice

Following government advice and to help stop the transmission of COVID-19, Wiltshire Council has taken the decision to close all its libraries and leisure centres until further notice. Full article here.

Wiltshire Council shares community volunteer groups

Wiltshire Council has published a directory of community volunteer groups that have been set up throughout the county, in the wake of the ongoing COVID-19 situation. So far, Wiltshire Council has been made aware of more than 100 groups that are supporting their fellow residents throughout Wiltshire during this difficult time. View the list here.

Urgent appeal from Melksham food bank

In these unprecedented times, Melksham Food Bank is calling for additional support to meet rising demand, being exacerbated as schools close and children are at home.

In particular, donations of the following priority items would be really appreciated:

• Tinned meat
• Tinned vegetables
• Tinned potatoes and/or instant potato
• UHT milk
• Breakfast cereals
• Toilet rolls

Council tax and business rates payments deferred until June for those who need it

To support people as much as possible during the ongoing COVID-19 situation, Wiltshire Council has confirmed that no resident or business in Wiltshire will have to pay council tax or business rates until June 2020 if they are struggling. Full details here. 

Rooms needed to house rough sleepers and the homeless

Wiltshire Council has made an urgent call to hoteliers, B&Bs, and Airbnb providers to come forward to offer accommodation to house homeless people in Wiltshire during the coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis. Accommodation is particularly required in the south of the county. Full details here.

Visiting Wiltshire Council hubs

Following government advice and to help stop the transmission of COVID-19, Wiltshire Council are asking people not to visit their hubs where possible. A number of their key services can be dealt with online or over the phone useful numbers can be found here.

Wiltshire Council eases parking restrictions

To support residents and key workers during the ongoing Coronavirus situation, Wiltshire Council is easing parking restrictions.

From Friday 27th March council car parks will be free and the council’s parking enforcement service will be relaxed and focus primarily on serious contraventions. The enforcement service will continue to prevent incidents of obstructive or dangerous parking that could have a more significant impact on safety and access for emergency and essential services.
