Harry Swayne, 22, has secured a permanent position with Naturally Social, after completing a 6-month Kickstart placement. Naturally Social is a communications agency set up by Natalie Sherman in 2015 to work with companies and organisations that put purpose before profit. Specialising in social media, PR and marketing, the team has supported the impact of over 200 ambitious charities and ethical companies, enhancing their communications and creating real results. From helping Wiltshire Air Ambulance raise £10,000 in just 72 hours to fund its new flight room, to more recently partnering with a local IT company in getting more than 850 donated laptops refurbished and gifted back to communities to help bridge the digital divide across Wiltshire and neighbouring counties.
What is your background Harry and how did you find your placement at Naturally Social?
I completed a Degree in 2020 in Creative Writing but the pandemic made it difficult to find work. My Dad told me about Kickstart as he saw it on the news and so I visited the Job Centre but I found out I had to be on Universal Credit so I started that process. Once I had a job coach I kept looking for the right role.
Can you tell us what your role entails?
I am a communications and admin assistant, so I supply support for the team, I create reports – these show month on month our clients social media presence and engagement. I do research for the team, create statistics and make a great cup of tea! I also started writing blogs during my 6-month placement to show my journey, I am now writing blogs for clients.
What effect has Kickstart had on you?
It has actually changed my life, I found finding a job really hard, but it was so easy to find through kickstart, I got the initial interview almost straight away. The writing aspect I was looking for, but I didn’t see myself in an office job, but I’m glad it happened. It’s absolutely a positive experience for me.
As an employer how have you found the Kickstart scheme?
Harry was our first placement, we now have a second in the office and are waiting to advertise the 3rd, it is worthwhile, and we are lucky to find somebody with an interest in writing, Harry is eager and has a positive attitude, he is a good representation of what an ideal kickstart placement should look like. We will be looking at his career progression going forward.
