Students to Receive GCSE Results via New Mobile App

Students in England set to receive GCSE results via app from summer 2026

In a move to bring exam results firmly into the 21st century, the UK government last week announced the launch of the Education Record app, allowing every Year 11 student in England to access their GCSE results digitally. Previously piloted in Greater Manchester and the West Midlands, the app will roll out nationally this summer

What’s changing:

  • Year 11 students can view their official GCSE results instantly on their mobile devices after results day, eliminating reliance on paper certificates.
  • Results will still be delivered in person through schools on results day before becoming available in the app.

Benefits to students and schools:

  • Faster onward progression: Results in hand, students can more quickly enrol in college, training programs, or begin job applications.
  • Simplified record-keeping: Results and student support needs (such as SEND status or free school meal eligibility) are accessible to schools, colleges, and future employers—reducing paperwork and lost documents.

Financial and resource impact:

  • The government estimates the system could save up to £30 million annually in administrative costs—resources that can be reinvested in teaching and student support.
