Helping Young People Shape Their Future Pathways
As students across the UK gear up for their GCSEs, National Careers Week 2026 (2–7 March) arrives at the perfect moment to inspire you to start thinking about your future pathways. Designed to help young people explore the world of work, NCW provides free, high‑quality career resources and guidance to support informed decision‑making during this crucial stage in your education.
A Week Fully Dedicated to Careers Support
National Careers Week is a nationwide celebration of careers guidance, giving schools, colleges and other education providers a focused opportunity to highlight the breadth of future career options. The week is supported by a range of printable, downloadable, digital and video resources that help students understand the world of employment and what steps they can take next.
For young people preparing for GCSEs, this guidance is especially important. The choices you make after Year 11—whether that’s sixth form, college, an apprenticeship or work-based training—play a key role in shaping your longer-term ambitions.
The Virtual Careers Fair: Opening Doors for Everyone
One of the major highlights of NCW is the Virtual Careers Fair, which goes live from today. The fair offers you a free and accessible way to explore different employers, industries, and future opportunities from any device. You can join using this link on the NCW website here.
This online space includes videos, employer profiles, and inspirational stories—giving young people a realistic view of the skills needed in different sectors and what career paths might suit them best.
Why Thinking Ahead Matters
GCSE students often feel pressure as they revise and prepare for exams, but NCW encourages you to look beyond the immediate stress and get excited about what comes next. It emphasises that:
- There is no single “right” pathway—young people can choose academic, vocational, or work‑based learning routes.
- Exploring careers early builds confidence, helping students choose subjects and qualifications that align with their strengths and interests.
- Career planning reduces anxiety, giving students a clearer sense of purpose and motivation as you work through your GCSEs.
A Future Full of Possibilities
Over recent years, NCW’s virtual events and activities have reached over a million young people, offering inspiration and guidance during key transitions in education. This year aims to be bigger and better, helping students feel supported as they take their next steps.
With industries evolving faster than ever—particularly in digital, green technologies, health, engineering, and creative sectors—it has never been more important for young people to feel informed and empowered when making decisions about your future.
