Exploring Volunteering

What’s this course about?   

This course is designed to provide learners with the confidence and knowledge to explore a volunteering role of their choice. 

The learners will explore their personal skills, qualities, strengths and interests, which will in turn help them to choose a volunteering opportunity that they will find both interesting and rewarding. At the end of the session, learners will rehearse appropriate  interview question scenarios  and construct appropriate replies. They will also gain insight into how to dress appropriately if they are required to attend an interview.  

Course format:  

This is a face-to-face course where learners will learn together and take part in practical group activities, all in a relaxed and friendly environment.  

Who will benefit from attending?  

People who are looking to improve their  communication skills and wish to explore volunteering opportunities. 

What will I learn? 

  •  How to Identify the skills and qualities that are useful to volunteer roles. 
  • Identify my strengths and interests. 
  • State the benefits that can be gained from volunteering. 
  • Describe the rights and responsibilities of volunteers. 
  • Understand the role of a volunteer in an organisation. 
  • Formulate answers to possible interview questions. 
  • Explore the range of volunteer opportunities that are available. 

How long is the course?  

A single 2 hour session. 

Will I be assessed?  

You will be required to complete some paperwork during this course and participate in group activities. This will record and support your learning journey and successes.  

FaCL courses are funded by the DfE.

Courses are no cost to learners who meet our eligibility criteria. Learners must be aged 19+ on 31 August of the academic year, have a Wiltshire postcode and meet certain residency requirements. You must also be able to tick one of the following criteria:

  • On a lower income (individual income less than £25,750 a year)
  • In receipt of benefits (other than child benefit)
  • Not in work and looking to go into work, now or in the future
  • Care leaver, refugee, foster carer, carer, military family / ex-armed forces personnel,
  • Have a learning difficulty or disability
  • Have school-aged children who receive means-tested free school meals
  • Not in work and looking to go into work, now or in the future
