What’s this course about?
The purpose of this course is to help you develop confidence in using and explaining scientific terms, get creative as a family and develop a sense of awe and wonder to promote enthusiasm for learning.
Course format:
This is a face to face course where you’ll learn together and take part in practical group activities, all in a relaxed and friendly environment.

Who will benefit from attending?
This course is for parents and carers who want to support their child/children with their learning of science.
What will I learn?
- Learn Scientific terms
- Discover science experiments you can create using items you have in the home
- Learn how to develop a sense of awe and wonder, to promote enthusiasm for science
How long is the course?
This is run as a single 2-hour session, with some activities to do at home to help you practise your skills.
Will I be assessed?
You will be required to complete some paperwork during this course. This will record and support your learning journey and successes.
Entry Requirements:
Family and Community Learning courses are funded by the Education and Skills Funding Agency. Courses are no cost to learners if they are aged 19+, have a Wiltshire postcode, and have been a resident in UK/EU for 3+years (or have certain immigration status) and if you can tick any of these criteria:
- have less than 5 GCSEs grades A-C / 9-4
- in receipt of benefits (other than child benefit)
- are a military family
- are a family with children who need additional support
- are unemployed and looking for work.

Hi – is this the first date for this 5 week course
Hi Sarah,
Thanks so much for your enquiry. Confidence and New Directions starts on 20 June 12:30-2:30pm for five weeks, finishing on 18 July. We are also running our short introductory course: Discovering Confidence, on Tuesday 13 June 12:30-2:30pm, which is a good first step.
