Quantity Surveyor or Site Manager Work Experience Oppourtunity with Midas

What we are offering:
We have 1-2 work placements available in September. The duration’s of the work placements will be 1 week. Ideally we would be looking for someone who would like to become a Site Manager or Quantity Surveyor.

Site Manager – Site managers run the workforce on a building site. This may suit someone who is a career changer – perhaps who has had previous management experience within a warehouse/manufacturing company or someone who is ex-military; this would use their knowledge of processes and logistics. They will also need to be IT Literate. The alternative would be a young person who has a general interest in construction, but who isn’t perhaps aware of the roles available other than the trades roles

General overview of a Site Manager role:
• Liaising with clients and reporting progress, professional staff (such as architects and surveyors) and the public
• supervising contracted construction workers
• meeting subcontractors
• making safety inspections and ensuring construction and site safety
• checking and preparing site reports, designs and drawings
• maintaining quality control checks
• motivating the workforce throughout the project
• day to day problem solving
• using specialist construction management computer applications

General overview of a Quantity Surveyor role:

Quantity surveyors work out exactly how much a building cost to construct and are in charge of finances. This role would suit someone who is a problem solver, good with numbers, had an accounts/financial background. Below is just a general view of a Quantity Surveyor Role:
• preparing tender and contract documents
• working out the cost of repair and maintenance work
• establishing exactly what a client wants
• weighing up commercial risks
• allocating work to subcontractors
• valuing completed work and arranging payments
• Making sure a project meets every legal and quality standard
• Making sure that the client gets value for their money
• Advising on the maintenance costs of specific buildings
