Building Bridges Case Study

Building Bridges Case Study

The Building Bridges programme supports people across Swindon and Wiltshire who are facing challenges in being able to develop their skills, access education or move towards the world of work. Taking part in the programme is entirely voluntary and all the advice and support is offered free of charge. The programme is jointly funded by the European Social Fund and the National Lottery via the Big Lottery Fund.

*Aaron was referred to Building Bridges by Wiltshire Council Employment Support key worker, he had limited mobility and some memory problems due to a stroke four years ago. In the past Aaron had been in office managerial roles therefore had aspirations to get back into work in this environment

Due to his past experience he was able to secure a placement in an office environment for one day a week over twelve weeks, the role progressed so well that overtime Aaron adapted the role around his disability and took on more hours over two days.

This resulted in an increase of confidence, reducing the sense of social isolation and inspired him to continue to look for part time office-based roles. Aaron described how social isolation had a negative impact on his mental health over the last four years therefore this opportunity to up skill has been really important. It is now helping him to continue to look for work and volunteering.
