Jamie Church, 19, is on a Level 3 IT Apprenticeship at Systemagic in Bradford-On-Avon who provide IT support for many small businesses in Wiltshire and Somerset.

Were you always interested in starting an Apprenticeship?

I was, I left Sixth Form after completing my A-Levels (Computer Science, IT, Core Maths and Applied Science). I wasn’t interested in attending University, I had visited an Apprenticeship Fair and learnt more about what it meant. I had customer service experience from my job in Tesco so I was ready to use those skills as well, I think they have grown since being in this role.

What does your role entail and what advice would you give to others considering the same route?

I work on the desk and support clients with their IT issues, I usually do this over the phone but if machinery is bought into the office I help to fix that as well. I would say to others that the main advantage is you are gaining experience as well as earning. It is ok to go to University to get the qualification but you won’t have the experience.
