Course Details

Supporting My Teen with Transitions to Adulthood is an online course designed for parents and carers who want to help their teenager prepare for the transition from education into adulthood. The course explores post-16 and post-18 options, teenage development, future career pathways and the life skills young people need to become more independent.

You will gain practical knowledge and confidence to support your teenager as they make important decisions about their future.

Who is this course for?

This course is for parents and carers of young people aged 14+ who want to support their teenager with planning for post-16 and post-18 transitions.

  • Understand more about brain development and teenage behaviour
  • Identify your role in supporting your teenager’s next steps
  • Explore the training, employment and study options available to teenagers
  • Understand the impact of post-16 choices on finances
  • Learn how to help your teenager develop a positive online presence
  • Explore ways to support your young person in developing important life skills, including managing money
  • Find out where to access further help, advice and support

Course Format

This is an online course delivered in a relaxed and friendly learning environment.

Sessions include tutor-led learning, discussions and practical group activities. There will also be activities to complete at home to help reinforce learning and practise new skills.

What support will I receive?

You will receive guidance and support from an experienced tutor throughout the course. The course offers the opportunity to learn alongside other parents and carers, share experiences and gain practical information that can be used to support your teenager’s transition to adulthood.
