Working in Schools
This course is delivered over five sessions of two hours each.
What is this course about?
Working in Schools is a practical course designed to help you prepare for future employment in educational settings.
The course provides an insight into the varied roles and responsibilities involved in working in schools and gives you the opportunity to learn alongside other like-minded people. You will explore how schools support children and young people and develop an understanding of the skills and knowledge needed to work within an educational environment.
Who is this course for?
This course is for individuals who are interested in working or volunteering with children in schools, in roles such as Teaching Assistant, Mid-Day Supervisory Assistant (MDSA), school administration roles, pastoral support roles and more.
What will I learn?
- How to engage and support children in learning
- How to promote wellbeing and safety
- Possible causes of challenging behaviour and effective responses
- How to use the curriculum to guide learning
- Recognise challenges faced by children with SEND and how to support learning
How to give effective feedback to learners, parents and professionals
Course Format
You will learn together online in a group in a relaxed and friendly environment. There are five sessions of two hours each. Sessions will include tutor-led teaching, group discussions and independent activities. There will also be some activities to complete at home to help develop your knowledge and practise your skills.
What support will I receive?
You will be supported by your tutor throughout the course in a friendly and welcoming online learning environment. Your tutor will provide guidance, feedback and encouragement to help you develop your knowledge and confidence.
What will I gain from Working in Schools?
By attending this course, you will gain a greater understanding of the roles and responsibilities involved in working in schools. You will develop your confidence to apply for employment or voluntary opportunities and improve your ability to engage in professional discussions about children’s learning, wellbeing and development.
Will I Be Assessed?
You will be asked to complete some course paperwork during the session. This helps record your learning and supports your learning journey and achievements.
