What’s this course about?
This course aims to provide learners with basic baking skills that they can adapt to encourage independence and confidence in the kitchen.
Learners will learn a basic sponge cake recipe which they will use to design and make their own cupcakes.
Course format:
This is a face-to-face course where learners will learn together and take part in practical group activities, all in a relaxed and friendly environment.
Who will benefit from attending?
People who are looking to improve their independent living skills.
What will I learn?
- A basic sponge cake recipe.
- Measuring skills.
- Feel more confident in adapting recipes.
- Prepare and cook foods safely.
- Understand how to use hygiene practices when preparing and cooking food. How long is the course? A single 2 hour session.
Will I be assessed?
You will be required to complete some paperwork during this course. This will record and support your learning journey and successes.
FaCL courses are funded by the DfE.
Courses are no cost to learners who meet our eligibility criteria. Learners must be aged 19+ on 31 August of the academic year, have a Wiltshire postcode and meet certain residency requirements. You must also be able to tick one of the following criteria:
- On a lower income (individual income less than £25,750 a year)
- In receipt of benefits (other than child benefit)
- Not in work and looking to go into work, now or in the future
- Care leaver, refugee, foster carer, carer, military family / ex-armed forces personnel,
- Have a learning difficulty or disability
- Have school-aged children who receive means-tested free school meals
- Not in work and looking to go into work, now or in the future
