What is this course about?
Supporting My Teen to Understand Their Skills is an online course designed to help parents and carers support teenagers to recognise their strengths, skills and personal qualities.
The course explores transferable skills, resilience and effective communication, helping parents and carers understand how to discuss these with their teenagers. You will learn how to encourage young people to recognise their value, build confidence and use their skills and qualities to plan for their future.
Who is this course for?
This course is for parents and carers who would like to help their teenagers identify their skills, recognise their strengths and develop confidence when planning for the future.
What will I learn?
By the end of the session, you will:
- Explore how to identify your teenager’s personal qualities, skills and interests
- Learn how to communicate positively with your teenager about their strengths
- Understand what resilience is and why it is important
- Discover ways to help your teenager build resilience
- Recognise that everyone has different skills, qualities and interests
- Understand how helping young people recognise their value can support future planning and decision-making
Course Format
This is an online course where you will learn alongside other parents and carers and take part in discussions and tutor-led activities in a relaxed and friendly environment.
What Support Will I Receive?
You will be supported throughout the session by an experienced tutor. The course provides a welcoming environment where parents and carers can share ideas, learn practical strategies and develop confidence in supporting their teenagers.

Will I Be Assessed?
You will be required to complete some paperwork during this course. This will record and support your learning journey and successes.
